Daredevil…Or not

I’ve been wanting a tattoo for a long time. More specifically, a barcode tattoo. The meaning behind it for me is the fact I shouldn’t take myself too seriously. I’m actually just a product of society, even a number you might say. It reminds me of a quote from a movie: “Don’t take life too seriously; you’ll never get out alive” [Van Wilder] (Not exactly a philosophical source, but I think it’s nicely said and true πŸ™‚ ).

Then a funny thing happened last Summer. While browsing sites, I came across the website of Scott Blake. This guy is obsessed with barcodes and has a whole website of barcode art. You can check his website here, it’s really worth it! You can even order barcode sticker tattoos and that’s exactly what I did.

Although the fake tattoo is quite large, I like the result. But for a real tattoo I would probably want it to be half the size. This way I can hide it easily from my family, they do not approve this at all. πŸ˜‰

I honestly don’t know if I’ll ever get it, I’m maybe not a daredevil after all πŸ™‚

Tattoos can be lovely and a fun way to expressive yourself. I have a few, and have very little regrets, save my first, when I was much younger. Still, a butterfly, it is a lovely piece of artwork. You may ignore my opinion, of course, but I think that if you are to put something permanent on your body, it should hold strong meaning to you. After reading your reasoning for considering a barcode, I did not see this. Perhaps something else? You can very easily uphold the message of “not taking yourself too seriously” while avoiding the mistake of indelible artwork. Think ten years from now, twenty, thirty, and forty. What will be important to you then, that is important to you now.

    Blessings,
    Cara

    • I appreciate your opinion and I get where you’re coming from, but I guess it’s the opposite of what I’m trying to achieve: not taking myself so serious πŸ™‚
But I’m not getting the tattoo any time soon.

Funny thing, I met someone who had a bar code tattoo on his upper arm and I asked what the meaning behind it was: It was a bar code of a chocolate bar. He likes it so much he got this tattoo to remind him not to eat it too often. πŸ˜€

I remember when my parents found out about one of my tattoos. Not good. I love my tattoos, but make sure you really want to get one. I know two people close to me who wish they didn’t get theirs. Only you can decide. Good luck with your decision.

  3. I only have one and it’s my brothers initials. I think the only other one I would get is a vegetarian symbol πŸ™‚ I have awarded your blog the 7 X 7 Blog Award. Check it out πŸ™‚

When it comes to tattoo, I dare not to be devil, no matter how artistic it looks. That’s one thing I like to see on others and not on me. πŸ™‚
